Re-Regulation, Here We Come

When global financial meltdown is the new black, it’s time for a new blog. So hello, and welcome to The Big Do-Over.

The blog is here, the hour is now! The effort to re-regulate the markets is getting underway at home and abroad. Politicians promise a glorious new era of oversight, even though many of their ideas have been around since Hank Paulson had baby fat.

In the coming weeks and months (or until I get too busy with other work, which would be nice), I'll be here to flesh out a cast of characters, wade through reports, speeches, summit meetings and legislation, and generally attempt to make sense of what's going on - or nonsense, when that's more appropriate.

Who am I to take this on? Well, I’ve had lots of experience with financial services regulation, more than I’d like to admit. I was an in-house securities lawyer on Wall Street for quite a while, then had another position where I worked on some of the policies that got us into this pickle. (Yes, "pickle” is a ridiculous term for what's going down these days, but all the other words are way too scary.)

So please add The Big Do-Over to your RSS feed and help yourself to a virtual donut, on the house. And let’s get rolling.

p.s.: I'm launching this site as I say goodbye to my old blog, Proxyland: Corporate Governance and Other Oxymorons, for reasons explained in my farewell post over there.
